Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog (in English: Sonic The Hedgehog) is a popular video game series, from the Japanese company Sega
In 1988-1989, a game console of the 16-bit generation, the "Sega Mega Drive" ("Genesis" in the United States) of the Sega company was released in Japan and the United States. The company tried to create a character that would be universally identified with the company, in order to create uniqueness, differentiation and identification with the console. To this end, sketches were uploaded for several characters, including "Alex Kidd", but these did not pass the focus group test. In 1991, Hayao Nakayama, the chairman of Sega, decided to hold a competition among the company's employees in order to find the design of the new character for the console. Most of the employees submitted proposals based on animals such as rabbits and kangaroos, and even a cartoon of Theodore Roosevelt in pajamas (this became Dr. Eggman in the Sonic games). Two reached the finals - a black armadillo (Mighty the Armadillo, who later appeared in several games in the series) and a blue hedgehog (Sonic the Hedgehog). Nakayama chose the blue hedgehog designed by Naoto Oshima.

The first Sonic the Hedgehog video games were platform games only, but following the great success the franchise gained, other types of video games were later developed. Almost all the games in the series star the character of Sonic the Hedgehog as the protagonist. The plot of the games focuses mainly on Sonic's attempts to save his planet from various threats, and especially from the main antagonist, Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.
