Super Mario

Super Mario is a series of 2D and 3D platform games created by the Nintendo company starring the fictional plumber Mario. Alternatively, the game series is often referred to as the "Super Mario Brothers game series" or simply the "Mario game series". It is the main game series of the Mario franchise. Over the years, at least one game in the Super Mario game series has been developed for each of Nintendo's major game consoles. There are a total of over 20 games in the Super Mario game series.

The Super Mario series of games mostly take place in the fictional Mushroom Kingdom, where Mario is usually the character the player plays. He is usually joined by his brother Luigi, and often other friends as well. Super Mario games are games in the platform genre where the player runs and jumps across platforms and on top of many enemies throughout the game. The games have simple plots, with usually Mario and Luigi setting out to rescue Princess Peach who has been kidnapped by the game's main antagonist Bowser. The first game in the series, Super Mario Bros., was originally released in 1985 for Nintendo's NES game console and was the game that established the basic familiar and popular elements of the series games.

The Super Mario game series is part of the larger Mario franchise, which also includes video games from other genres as well as motion pictures, television series, comic book series, and other merchandise. Over the years, over 380 million copies of Super Mario games have been sold worldwide, making the Super Mario game series the fourth best-selling video game series of all time (after the Tetris series and the Call of Duty series).
