The games in the series (1989) Golden Axe Released in 1989 by Sega. In the game you can choose to be a Viking dwarf, a barbarian or an Amazon. The goal of all of them is to kill the despicable dictator Death Adder who has conquered the peaceful lands of a land called "Yorya", captured the royal family and stole the golden axe. Each of the fighters strives for revenge, because in previous battles with Death Adder, each of them lost a family member.

the progress of the game Progress in the game is made while eliminating all opponents, including giants, knights, orcs and skeletons. Apart from the various enemies that the characters meet during the game, they encounter tiny gnomes (sometimes while walking and sometimes the gnomes visit them during the night's parking). The sole purpose of these dwarves (after the characters hit them in various ways) is to provide the characters with food (to restore their health) and potions (to restore their magic power). Some of the enemies in the game are mounted on creatures, mostly dragons of various kinds, which after the enemy is downed can be used by our heroes. All creatures are able to jump and strike in a similar way, but each one has an additional attack method unique to it - hitting with its tail, spitting a fireball, and the like. The normal course of the game includes eight stages that scroll along the story of the journey, described earlier, and can be participated in by a single player or a pair of players acting together. Other game options include a duel between two human players or alternatively a single player confrontation at a fixed location against a single enemy or against multiple enemies simultaneously. When the player defeats the enemy on the screen, additional enemies appear at a higher difficulty level.

(1991) Golden Ax II In the sequel, all the heroes from the previous game return to fight the evil forces of Dark Gold, and bring back the golden axe. The game mechanics are the same as the previous game, the changes are characterized by the magic of the characters and the design of the enemies and stages. Critics and fans expressed disappointment at the fact that the game didn't innovate too much, and blamed the fact that Sega rushed the sequel to ride on its success. Despite this, the game became very popular.

(1992) Golden Ax - The Revenge of Death Adder In 1992, Sega released Golden Axe: Death Eater's Revenge for arcade only. This was the first Golden Ax game to use 32-bit. Although the game was very popular, the game did not see the light of day for the home consoles and remained exclusive to the arcade. Only Gilius Thunderhead remains from the original cast of characters. The new characters are Barbarian, Centaur, and Trix. The main villain is again Death Adder and in his first version he swallows any magic that is thrown at him. The game surpasses its predecessors in terms of sound, graphics, and gameplay. For the first time, the player may choose which way to progress during the stage. In addition, this is the only Golden Ax game that contains magic that does not damage the opponent, but rather heals the player.

(1993) Golden Ax III Released just a few weeks after its predecessor, in early 1993, Golden Ax Three featured new characters, Barbarian, Amazon, Human Gorilla, and Panther. The game contains many gameplay changes. For the first time, it allows two players to face each other in a duel. In addition, the magic system in the game allows two players to combine their power together and create a stronger magic. The battle system has been changed and for the first time each character has several different attack options. Despite the many changes, the game received mixed reviews, claiming that the new graphics engine ruins the experience and that it is not challenging.
